Manuel Davis Jr. asked:
Let there be no mistake if you have tax problems you need a tax attorney to guide you through the morass of the tax code. You mention tax problems or tax liability to anyone and it universally sends shivers down the spine. It’s the fear of the unknown that makes people so crazy when dealing with taxes. The government has a unique and well planned way of scaring tax payers into thinking their problems are bigger than they may really be. Having a tax attorney fighting for you is the only way to protect yourself from the government.
The truth is the threats that may be thrown around by the IRS or state revenue services may be unfounded and your tax attorney can tell you what is what. Liens, pay attachments, judgments are all powerful words the tax man loves to bandy about in order to scare you into paying as fast as you can. It’s their job to get money out of you as quickly as possible and to get as much as possible. Don’t think that the government is above coercion because they are not. It may not be outward but it certainly is implied. And, that can be scary. But, your tax attorney knows how to deal with it. He/she knows what the government can and cannot do and is there to protect your rights.
Just the fact that you have a tax attorney gives you clout with the government. If the IRS or state revenue service knows you have retained a tax attorney they know you mean business and are more likely to loosen the reins a bit. The fact is you have rights and you need to be sure those rights aren’t trampled on. It’s their job to separate you from as much money as possible and the job of your tax attorney to keep as much of that money in your pocket, not the government’s.
If you are getting threatening notices from the IRS or state, don’t delay getting a tax attorney. The faster you have an advocate on board fighting for you the better. Don’t try and go it alone. The government wants to keep you in the offshore pharmacies dark about tax law so they can squeeze everything out of you. Fight the good fight and let your tax attorney have at it and limit your exposure to unnecessary federal and state tax liabilities.
